SHEEP AND GOAT PRODUCERS

 

    Change of Date: The NS&GP annual meeting will be held June 6 and 7 at the University of Nebraska-Panhandle Research and Extension Center in Scottsbluff, NE. The program was planned around the Panhandle Meat Goat Expo (www.panhandlemeatgoatexpo.com) at the Scottbluff County Fairgrounds at Mitchell, NE.
    The Friday, June 6 program starts at 9:30 a.m. with a tour of Brown Sheep Company woolen mill at Mitchell. The Friday afternoon and Saturday program will include marketing option presentations and discussions with:

* Dave Johnson of Equity Livestock, Baraboo, WI. Equity livestock operates an electrinic auction selling all classes of lambs and sheep throughout the Midwest.

* Dean Slingsby of Slingsby Livestock, Arcadia, NE. Dean buys and handles all classes of sheep/goats (primarily in Nebraska), specializing in goats, light lambs and slaughter sheep.

* Dr. Darrel Haney, UNL–Extension Veterinarian speaking on scrapie and buck check up.

* Denny Hogeland of KDK Meats speaking on requirements for USDA processing.

* Other topics include: Update on ASI activities; quality wool clip preparation; NS&GP board meeting; annual NS&GP general meeting with election of three board members representing the Western district (Panhandle) of Nebraska. The tour of local producer operations is scheduled to begin Saturday at (apx.) 2:30 p.m.
